Sky Drops

Sky Drops is part of the Open Mind Places in Referinghausen, located in the Sauerland region of Germany. These three small pavilions were constructed on May 22, 2020, to celebrate the annual International Day of Biodiversity. That year’s United Nations slogan, “Our solutions are in nature,” highlighted hope, solidarity, and the importance of collective efforts to build a future in harmony with nature (United Nations Environment Program, Montreal).

This self-built project is located along Heidenstrasse, a historic trade route over 1,000 years old that once connected Leipzig and Cologne. Perched at the highest point of a hill, the pavilions serve as a modest landmark and a viewpoint, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and the open sky.

In collaboration with the local community, native grasses and flowers have been planted around the steel mesh structures. Over time, these plants will grow to envelop the pavilions, forming natural walls. The installation supports biodiversity and provides a shared space for reflection and dialogue on regenerative thinking and environmental protection.
