The City Meeting Point / Room of Silence, formerly an abandoned goat stable, has been transformed with the support of the local community into a gathering space that symbolically embodies Korbach’s commitment to green energy transformation. Instead of repairing the leaky roof, a ring anchor made from recycled concrete was installed atop the aging structure, leaving the interior open to the sky.
Within this space, various plants have been collectively cultivated, creating a vibrant green oasis. At its center, a hammock hangs from ropes, balanced by four stones – a metaphor for Korbach’s four renewable energy sources: wind turbines, hydropower, biogas, and photovoltaic systems, which together generate 85 percent of the city’s electricity. This spot has become a popular gathering place, especially for young people, who have launched environmental initiatives from here, such as tree planting campaigns.
